Trauma

Trauma is a normal response by our body and mind to an overwhelming event that threatens physical harm, the life, or safety of yourself or someone else.

It is common for a person to avoid and be reluctant to talk about trauma as it is often a very painful topic, and many clients only seek counselling when life seems unbearable. Unresolved trauma dysregulates the nervous system and can make a person feel incredibly vulnerable. Working through trauma means having to dig up difficult and sometimes horrifying memories which will lead to confronting a situation or a person which lead to your trauma. Slowly touching on these memories and beginning to work through them is critical to the process of healing. Trauma healing is very personal and trauma therapy is a process I take slowly and always create a safe, supportive, comfortable environment for my clients.

Examples of traumatic events include:
“Truma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you.”
